What is a Short Chin?
A short chin usually refers to cases where the lower jaw bone is receded inward, or the lower jaw is small in terms of size, such that it seems as though there is no chin. As the chin is not position forward sufficiently enough, the lower side of the face seems small and weak. The chin is receded inward and its length is not sufficiently enough.
As the border line between the jaw and the neck is mixed up and is ambiguous, such that it seems to be beak. Therefore, a short chin is also called a bird face

Short Chin Surgical Method

The appropriate surgical method can be either the orthognathic surgery or the chin surgery, depending on the degree of severity of short chin and malocclusion.

If, through diagnosis, the issue is not confined to the lower jaw due to reasons such as malocclusion, then double jaw surgery may be necessary to correct for the lower jaw, while also treat the upper jaw issues, and to relocate and position the jaws.

Double jaw surgery and orthodontics are inseparably related. In general, at least 6 months of minimum orthodontic treatment is needed prior to double jaw surgery, and another period of orthodontic treatment is needed after the surgery. The entire process of double jaw surgery takes up 2 years on average to be completed.

Pre-surgery at EU Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery has the advantage of not requiring orthodontic treatment prior to the surgery. This is possible as a result of the highly sophisticated skills possessed by Dr. Kim and Dr. Shin.

To perform the surgery-first approach reliably, the three factors, accurate diagnosis and systematic surgical plans, surgical skills of the doctors, must all be in harmony.
