    • One Month After Double Jaw Surgery — My Face Has Changed So
    • Writer : Kim | Views : 9406 | Date : 2026-10-13

    • Surgeon: Dr. Jong-Yoon Kim

Why I Decided to Have Double Jaw Surgery

I had been living with a severe malocclusion for a long time, which caused a lot of pain around my molars. I was also very self-conscious about the appearance of my jaw as it became more prominent over time. Because of both the functional discomfort and the aesthetic concerns, I eventually decided to undergo double jaw surgery.

Why I Chose EU Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery

While researching clinics that specialize in double jaw surgery, I came across EU Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery through blogs and online Q&A platforms.

I also read many detailed reviews from actual patients on online communities such as YeowooYa, where people shared their surgery experiences and recovery process in detail. That made me feel that EU was not only highly specialized in orthognathic surgery, but also a clinic I could genuinely trust.

What stood out to me was that the reviews did not feel like simple advertisements. Patients openly shared their recovery experiences, difficulties, and satisfaction with the results, which made the clinic feel much more reliable.

I also liked that the entire process, from consultation and surgery to post-operative care, seemed very systematic. That was ultimately why I chose EU Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery.

      Day 1

I think it took about two hours after surgery before I really became fully conscious.

My nose was very congested, I couldn’t drink water yet, and my mouth felt extremely dry. My throat was also very sore.

Everyone says the first day is the hardest, and I definitely understand why now. The pain itself wasn’t the worst part for me — breathing was much more difficult and uncomfortable.

At this point, I just hope time passes quickly so I can get through this stage as soon as possible.

      Week 1

Today I had my final swelling laser treatment.

I was worried at first, but thankfully the swelling has gone down much more than I expected.

Tomorrow, I’m finally getting my stitches removed and the jaw fixation released. I’m honestly so excited just thinking about being able to speak normally again.

After spending two weeks with my jaws fixed, I never imagined I would feel this grateful for something as simple as being able to talk.

I feel like the hardest part is finally behind me. From now on, I just need to focus on taking care of myself and recovering well.

      Week 2

Today I had my final swelling laser treatment.

Thankfully, the swelling has gone down much more than I expected.

Tomorrow, I’m finally having my stitches removed and my jaw fixation released. I’m so happy just thinking about being able to speak again.

After spending two weeks with my jaws fixed, I never thought I would become this grateful for something as simple as being able to talk.

I feel like I’ve finally made it through the most difficult stage. From now on, I just need to focus on recovery and proper aftercare.

      Week 3

It has been one week since my jaw fixation was released.

I still can’t eat everything yet, but at least I can finally eat porridge and soft foods, which makes things much easier.

I’ve also been doing my mouth-opening exercises regularly, and now I can open my mouth wide enough to fit about two fingers.

I’m looking forward to recovering more and being able to enjoy all my favorite foods again. That thought is honestly keeping me going day by day.

      1 Month Post-Op

I think I’m finally starting to get used to my new face!

I’ll be visiting the clinic soon for my one-month follow-up, and I really hope the doctor tells me that everything is healing well.

I think just hearing that would give me a lot of peace of mind.

And of course, I can’t wait until I’m able to eat all the foods I’ve been missing again!

      2 Months Post-Op

At this point, I’ve adjusted so well that I sometimes forget I even had surgery.

Eating and going about my daily life already feel quite normal, and I’m able to chew and eat comfortably without any major inconvenience.

Since I’m still technically in the recovery period, I’m trying not to push myself too much and I’m still a little careful when eating.

Overall, though, I’m very comfortable in daily life and I’m happy with how smoothly my recovery has been going.

      3 Months Post-Op

I visited the clinic for my three-month follow-up and had both CT scans and X-rays taken so they could check everything in detail.

Dr. Jong-Yoon Kim personally reviewed my progress with me and explained that the position of the bones, the fixation, and the overall healing process were all very stable and progressing according to the original surgical plan.

Because I had both double jaw surgery and facial contouring, I definitely had some worries during recovery. Hearing that everything looked good on the actual scans made me feel like all the difficult moments had been worth it.

In the beginning, swelling and eating were the things I worried about the most. Now, I’ve been told that I can return to almost the same daily routine I had before surgery, which has made me feel much more relaxed.

I can even eat tougher foods and meat without much difficulty now, so I can really feel the functional improvement.

Now that I’m three months post-op, I’m not only happy with the improvement in my facial shape, but also with the stability of my bite, chewing function, and how quickly I’ve been able to return to normal life.

People often say that double jaw surgery looks more natural as time passes, and now I finally understand what they mean.

I’m just happy that everything is settling naturally into my face.

      6 Months Post-Op

It’s been six months since surgery, and I’m living so comfortably now that I can barely remember the jaw joint pain and malocclusion that used to bother me before surgery.

The discomfort I used to feel whenever I ate has mostly disappeared, and now that my bite is much more stable, everyday life feels so much easier.

Honestly, it almost feels like I’ve always lived this comfortably.

The first month after surgery definitely wasn’t easy. But as time passed, the discomfort gradually faded, and looking back now, I feel like it was all manageable.

I guess it’s true that people forget difficult experiences over time, because the hard parts already feel much more distant, while the satisfaction I feel now is much stronger.

The functional improvement is what I’m happiest about.

I had lived with pain and discomfort for so long that it almost felt normal to me. Now that those problems are gone, I sometimes wonder why I didn’t seek treatment sooner.

Aesthetically, I’m also very happy because my overall facial balance looks much better.

Now, six months after surgery, the positive changes I gained feel much bigger than all the time I spent worrying about whether or not to have surgery.

For anyone struggling with functional problems or malocclusion, I think it can be very helpful to at least have a detailed consultation.

Personally, I’m extremely satisfied with my decision.

      7 Months Post-Op

I finally finished what felt like the last stage of my double jaw surgery journey — orthodontic treatment!

After having my braces removed, my mouth and smile look noticeably softer and more natural.

I had been seeing gradual changes ever since surgery, but now that my orthodontic treatment is finished, I feel like this is the version of myself I’m happiest with.

I can smile widely in the mirror without feeling awkward at all, and the areas I used to feel self-conscious about have settled naturally.

People around me often tell me that they can’t even tell I had surgery anymore, and that everything looks so natural, almost as if I had always looked this way. Hearing that makes me even happier with the result.

It was a long journey from surgery to orthodontic treatment, but as the swelling gradually went down, my facial lines settled, and my bite became more stable, I became more and more satisfied.

Now I feel like I’ve gained both functional improvement and a more natural, balanced appearance.

I’m really glad I decided to have double jaw surgery.

      8 Months Post-Op

It has now been one month since I completely finished my orthodontic treatment, which really felt like the final stage of my double jaw surgery journey.

At this point, everything feels so natural that I sometimes completely forget I ever had surgery.

My upper and lower teeth fit together comfortably now, so eating feels much more stable, and I can even enjoy tougher foods without any trouble.

My facial contour has also continued to settle naturally over time, and I feel more satisfied whenever I take photos.

Friends I haven’t seen in a while often ask me what I did because they think my face looks noticeably different.

Even my family, who were very worried before surgery and kept asking whether double jaw surgery was too risky, now tell me that my overall appearance looks much more open, balanced, and handsome.

Now that the long process of surgery and orthodontic treatment is finally over, I’m satisfied not only with the functional improvements but also with the aesthetic changes.

These days, whenever I look in the mirror, I genuinely feel glad that I decided to have the surgery.

I’m living a very comfortable and satisfying daily life now.

      9 Months Post-Op

I can’t believe it has already been nine months since my double jaw surgery!

The slight numbness that remained around my chin and lips has now completely resolved.

In the beginning, the area sometimes felt dull or tingly, and I often wondered when the sensation would fully come back. But I guess time really was the answer.

Now, whether I’m drinking water, eating, or touching my cheeks and chin, everything feels completely natural again.

It honestly just feels like my original face now.

Now that my sensation has returned, even making facial expressions feels much more comfortable.

Looking back from the time I first started considering double jaw surgery because of my malocclusion, through surgery, recovery, and orthodontic treatment, it really has been a long journey.

Now that the whole process is almost complete, I feel both relieved and a little sentimental.

Most of all, I’m proud and happy that everything turned out successfully, both functionally and aesthetically.

    • EU knows
      beautiful faces very well
    • As our oral and maxillofacial surgery specialists perform aesthetic orthognathic surgery and aesthetic contouring surgery, the biggest of all concerns in receiving the surgery, “can the surgery actually be performed at an oral and maxillofacial surgery hospital to improve my beauty?” is not something you need to worry about.
