• In case of a non-severe mouth protrusion, only the orthodontic treatment is used to correct for the mouth protrusion In most cases, back teeth located behind canine teeth are extracted, and the front teeth are pushed into this space. The treatment period takes up between one and half to two years, and any misaligned teeth can also be treated concurrently.

• Under this method, 4 back teeth (2 upper teeth and 2 lower teeth) located behind canine teeth are extracted, and the protruded mouth is treated by pushing the protruded gum bone and teeth into the extracted space surgically.

• In case of a protruded mouth that accompanies malocclusion, double jaw surgery is needed. In case of a long face or facial asymmetry, a mouth protrusion surgery itself is insufficient as the gum will continue to be exposed. By The overall backward (and upward) movement of the upper jaw, the issue of gum bone exposure can be solved effectively at once by using this method.

• • SSRO
  • This is the most widely used method around the world. This method tends to result in outstanding initial immovability and is effective at expanding the length. As the SSRO surgery performed by EU Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery does not involve intermaxillary fixation, patients can open their mouth immediately after the surgery. Accordingly, there are the advantages of being able to eat, talk, and conveniently breathe right away.
  • If the patients were naturally born with thin bones or have thin bones as a result of receiving double jaw surgery to treat structural issues such as a square jaw, applying the SSRO method may be difficult due to the possibility of exposing the nerves.
• • IVRO
  • As the surgery is completed by fracturing the bones without fixing their positions, the surgery time is relatively very short, and there is no need to receive additional surgery to remove pins. By inducing a physiological equilibrium on the relation between the temporomandibular joint ( or jaw joints) and the occlusion, there is the effect of enhancing the functions of the jaw joints, and as the location of bone fracturing is unrelated to the passage of the nerves, there is no risk of nerve damage even in case of thin bones. Cortical osteotomy techniques can concurrently be used, and therefore, there is an advantage of achieving a potentially significant enhancement in case of facial asymmetry or wide jawline.
  • As the positions of the bones are not fixed after fracturing, intermaxillary fixation for 2 weeks after the surgery is needed. As in the case of a short chin, this method is difficult to use in case the lower jaw needs to be pulled forward.

  In general, at least 6 months of minimum orthodontic treatment is needed prior to double jaw surgery, and another period of orthodontic treatment is needed after the surgery. The entire process of double jaw surgery takes up 2 years on average to be completed.
  Pre-surgery at EU Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery has the advantage of not requiring orthodontic treatment prior to the surgery.
