Reason For Surgery
My lower jaw is recessed and I have a short
chin, which I have been self-conscious about since I was young. Due to my short
chin, the balance of my face is off and I hated taking pictures. If I had to
take pictures, I would always do it with an app with filters. After graduating
university and before going outside to the real world, I wanted to improve my
insecurities. Through surgery, I thought I could have a lot of benefits.
Reason
for Choosing EU
I wanted to select a clinic that specializes
only on facial bone surgery. In the past, I was recommended double jaw surgery at
a plastic surgery clinic. At EU, they let me get 3~4 consultations and the
doctor said “double jaw surgery is not the only solution, you can just get genioplatsy.”
I was touched that the doctor changed the surgery plan for me. They thought
carefully about what the problem is for the facial bone which made me trust
them. The consultant was also helped me throughout the consultation so I felt
happy whenever I visited the clinic. These are the reasons why I chose EU Oral
& Maxillofacial Surgery.
Day 1
I arrived to the clinic and the doctor told
me how the surgery was going to be performed. After my surgery was over, I felt
nauseous due to the general anesthesia. I wasn’t allowed to sleep for at least
4 hours. My sibling arrived when my surgery was over so I didn’t feel sleepy.
As soon I felt fine, we took pictures and goofed around. My nose and throat doesn’t
hurt for now so I wasn’t uncomfortable and besides the nausea from the general anesthesia,
I felt fine. The doctor came in and told me how the surgery went. He checked my
progress and said I seemed healthy enough to leave on the same day. I took some
xrays and CT scans and heard the precautions. I had pumpkin extract and New
Care after I was discharged. I want to thank the doctor, consultant, and nurses
who helped my surgery process go smoothly.
Day 7
It’s been a week since my surgery. I was
really swollen until 3 days after the surgery, and the swelling decreased
quickly after the fourth week. The consultant said that I was deswelling
quickly. I think drinking pumpkin extract and going on frequent walks helped a
lot. When reading the reviews before surgery, I read some people had a sore
throat, clogged nose, and blood in the phlegm after surgery. However, I didn’t
have those types of side effects. I had slight pain in the area of my surgery. As
my swelling decreases, I look at my appearance with a mirror. My chin has come
out more and it looks more balanced. I hope the remaining swelling decreases
quickly.
14 Days
It’s been 2 weeks since my surgery, I
visited the clinic yesterday and got my stitches removed. I was told that
removing the stitches can sting or hurt a bit but it did not hurt at all. After
that, I was able to ask questions and heard the precautions after the 2nd
week, and then did the de-swelling laser treatment. Starting today, I could brush
my teeth and eat really soft foods. Whenever my sibling sees me, they tell me
that I look natural. It looks natural in my eyes as well so I feel satisfied. I
have almost no pain now and only have a dull sensation on my lower jaw.
1 months
It’s been a month since my surgery. The
swelling has decreased a lot and I look a lot more natural when I smile. My
mouth still feels tight and I still have a dull sensation but as time goes by,
it starts to get better. Starting from the first month, I was told that I could
do light exercises so I started doing cardio exercises. Sometimes when I look
at my photos before surgery, I think “wow I really do look different” and it
amazes me.
2 Months
It’s been two months since I had surgery. I
also went to my 2-month progress check. The doctor said that my bones was staying
fixed at the right position so I felt relieved. About 90% of the sensation has
returned. However, I still feel tightness around my mouth so I asked the
doctor. He told me that it can take up to 6 months to a year to heal gradually.
That is why I am doing the jaw exercises frequently. Lately, my friends around
me say my results look natural and that my chin came forwards so I feel happy.
4 Months
As 4 months pass by, I am able to do my
daily activities. I drink lightly and I’m eating well so I gained 3~4kgs. I
thought my swelling decreased completely after two months but I still had some
left. My jawline is more visible than before. I still have a dull sensation on
the gums of my lower teeth.
5 Months
It’s been 5 months. The swelling on my jaw seems
to be gone. I’m able to travel, exercise, and drink alcohol (sometimes). I’m
able to proceed with any daily activities now. I still have the dull and tight sensation
but it got a lot better compared to last month. People around me say that my
jawline looks better and I feel that the surgery went well whenever I hear
that.
6 Months Post-Op
It’s been 6 months and the loss of
sensation on my lower gums and the tightness on my chin has been getting
better. I’m not experiencing any huge discomforts for my daily activities.
Before surgery, I used to look dull. Now that my appearance changed, I am
happy.
